two new paintings } silence of noise | the hardness (and softness) of sex
Posted on February 20, 2019 1 Comment

I created The Hardness (and Softness) of Sex a few weeks ago in an attempt to deconstruct (and possibly destruct) Eve. I wanted to experiment with unfamiliar shapes while further exploring my curiosity about colors and their relationship with each other. But also, it was a reaction to a book I had just finished: Resistance: […]
two new pictures this weekend

I just bought a basic set of Sakura poster paints. I used to have this same set back in college (early 90s). When I started using them last night I was reminded of how different mediums affect the content of my work. It took me a little while to get the hang of these colors […]

A few days ago I saw a post on Instagram that inspired me to create a massive papier-mache Eve head.Â

For the past couple of days I’ve had a nagging itch for being on an island. For now, I’ll just fantasize about it.

I want to tell you the story of how I met Colette. I was having lunch with my dear friend Sarah Alhamad at Momo’s in London, back in September. It was my treat so when I gave the waiter my card he asked me if I was from Kuwait. I said yes. He then told me about a […]

I’ve been wanting to paint a large scale piece for a while now. Around two weeks ago I finally started one. I didn’t get it stretched because a. I don’t have much space to work upright on anything of that scale and b. I honestly thought it wouldn’t be the great challenge it’s proven to be. […]

My sister’s cat Nitfa left last night. I’ve been saying this for years: boys leave.
new paintings } the centerfold II and III

After painting my first two Centerfolds, I decided that they would seem a little out of place in my upcoming exhibition. So I scrapped work on the third (and originally fourth) painting. Yesterday my dear friend Mai visited the gallery and asked me where they were. I told her that I felt they were superfluous and irrelevant. To […]

My nephew Mahmoud saw a shirt I had painted a while ago and said that he would like one. I was so flattered by his request that I couldn’t help but oblige him. Listen to Eez-eh by Kasabian

It pains me to say that I have completely lost interest in painting faces (and figures by extension). I’ve been struggling with this for weeks now. My heart just isn’t in it anymore. Is this some sort of a reaction to something? I don’t know. I don’t know what the thing is, nor what the […]
because i have to stop thinking

Have you ever thought so much it drove you insane? I think I just reached that point; the point where I no longer want things to make sense because they’re just not going to. Ever. Not as long as I’m thinking about them. I feel I’ve reached a level of madness where I just want […]

This is my ‘countdown’ scroll. I’ll be working on this one perhaps until my works are due to be hung. It’s going to be fun.

I am so incredibly behind schedule. There is so much to do outside the actual artwork itself, it’s not even funny. I’m anxious, worried, nauseous…and I’ve just used ellipses. I know it will work in the end, but at the expense of my mental and physical health over the next few weeks.

A couple of weeks ago I got an e-mail from Kuwaiti fashion doyen (a more apt term would be ‘fashion scientist’) Maha Alessa. She wrote that she was in the mood to wear Eve. The sentiment was a little bizarre which was right up my alley as far as sentiments go. So I thought, let […]
