Goodbye, Ophelia

Ophelia & the Jellyfish, 2009, acrylic on canvas, 133cm x 240cm

It’s been a bittersweet week of hellos and goodbyes. First Um Kulthum and now Ophelia. I didn’t have much time with Um Kulthum so the farewell wasn’t so bad. This one, however. She’s been with me for a year now. Her space feels so empty already. On the other hand, she will be in a good home I trust. I will take her there tomorrow morning and snap some photos to share.

who will replace you?

i will miss you dearly

  1. I love the fact that you are so attached to the ‘women that you create’ and how they become so real for you…how come Ophelia doesn’t have hands?

    • she did have arms once upon a time. it just felt right to remove them. it’s so hard to explain. something about being free to be swept by the current of jellyfish and the sea.

  2. this gal- it was interesting to see her metamorphosis…. she’s quite stoically powerful, to me. Her eyes speak stories and volumes…. one of my favorite ladies…
