new old painting

this afternoon yet a new beginning

this afternoon yet a new beginning

Sometimes I start a painting and leave it for a while. A few weeks or months later I begin another painting on top of that one, and again I stop. This is my fourth painting on this canvas since April. I had a feeling this one would stick, and it did. I’m very happy with it.

sometimes i go into overdrive. the other day i bumped into one of my favorite kuwaiti artists. i asked him if he was still painting, sort of like i do, everyday. he was a little defensive about it and said, 'no, i'm not a factory'. i hadn't implied that either he OR i were a factory. and i was thinking: well, i draw/paint everyday and I'M not a factory. i felt his remark was a little unfair but i wasn't there to engage in a discourse about what constitutes a factory

    • Many times I do it because of a combination of not warming to the painting before it and the fact that I’m not painting on a blank canvas.
