My family and I spent a lovely week in Beirut and the Lebanese mountains for my sister Yasmine’s wedding. I’ll share some moments here.
bringing baby to the dark side

It’s Friday. I was inspired. And then baby showed up. I got him into a black turtle neck and we started our little shoot. He was a natural. In fact, he was so ‘Come on, Vogue’ I could hardly keep a straight face. The guy’s a pro, just like his Aunty G.
uk days } the most wonderful trip

What a perfect little trip I took. All across the board, from finally visiting the Dennis Severs House, to successful shopping sprees, to a dear friend’s wedding. And even the pitfalls were to laugh about almost immediately. But alas with a most wonderful trip, comes a tremendous dip. I was feeling the anti-climax all day yesterday. […]

The Alkandari clan loves being snapped, so we’re always looking for the next great photo op. So last Thursday I took my watercolor sketchbook to our weekly family lunch. I wanted to match my girls with various relatives, whether by looks or color combos or just a certain je ne sais quoi. I wanted them […]

Listen to Aventine by Agnes Obel, off the Sombreve playlist: Last night has finally come and sadly gone. I had been anticipating it since May, and for the last six months I have been working obsessively, compulsively, tirelessly to reach Secretary status. For the past few weeks the mere thought of writing in this book has made me anxious. There was so much going on and I had little inclination to write. I don’t understand why. So I’ll share some of the highlights of my days here.Â
panty hose, balloons and too much sugar

I didn’t realize what a burden the year 2013 was on me until I woke up this morning to a new year. There is something so sweet about an even number, I can’t explain it. Odd numbers seem pointy and angular. They’re unfriendly, unlucky and just plain bad news. So happy new year, everyone!

I visited Noor Alzabin’s elegant home this morning to take some photos of her new acquisition, my painting ‘Girl Not Alone’. I think, however, I ended up taking more photos of Noor, Lali and their excitable doggy Balthazar!
There’s Always Something to Write On/Scribble in

I hate going out in this country. I have many obligatory family visits that put such a damper in my day, even though I happen to be fond of many of my family members. I just always prefer to stay at home. Especially when I’m at a crucial part of a painting and the whole […]
A New Painting
Posted on January 12, 2010 Leave a Comment
A few days ago I started a painting in oils. Oils proved to be more challenging than I remember, because I’m more accustomed to using acrylics. But I know I’ll adapt. I started this painting with the figure facing the viewer. Then I added another woman embracing the first. I rarely paint people interacting with […]
