I am proud to say that Fairuz is now hanging at the Dar Al-Funoon Gallery as part of its annual summer exhibit. The gallery, situated in the Behbehani Villas in Sharq (see map), is open twice a day every day except for Friday and Saturday. Times: 10am-1pm/4pm-7pm Thanks to photographer Khaled Al-Saleh for the photos.
Please remember that Fairuz is on display at the Boushahri Gallery for a week. The gallery is located in Salmiya, Baghdad Street, Building 36. Park your car in the back, there’s usually lots of space. If you’re walking, you can go straight through the side door (by the camera store). Morning hours are 10am-1pm, evening hours […]
Fairuz has finally made it to the Boushahri Gallery where she will be on display for about a week. If you’re interested in giving her a visit, the gallery is located in Salmiya, Baghdad Street, Building 36. Park your car in the back, there’s usually lots of space. I know it’s been a while since I posted anything on Fairuz. She has been giving me hell but I think we’re approaching completion. My paint-drenched fingers are crossed. So I’m hoping by the weekend we’ll be done. Hopefully before, it depends on how she behaves.
A few days ago I received a comment about the platform Fairuz is placed upon. I disagreed with what the person wrote even though initially I ultimately pictured her to be floating. I haven’t fully changed my mind but I’m tinkering with the idea of meeting the two ideas half-way, perhaps having her blend into […]
I’m at a bit of a low here with Fairuz. But I still know what I want to achieve and how to do it so I’m fine. It’s been such a struggle with her. To me, she is not like the painting of Um Kulthum, which was a literal translation from photo to painting. With […]
She’s driving me mad, even though I am enjoying painting her. She looks like the spawn of David Bowie and Tori Amos if they ever got together. Her mouth was so easy to sketch but painting it has proven rather difficult. I’m getting there though.
She’s proving to be a little difficult. It’s very hard getting bits and pieces from one photo or another. I really need to feel her and it’s not happening yet. But it’ll come. I can’t wait to get back to my girls. At least they don’t fight back. Not like Fairuz anyway.
When I painted Um Kulthum, it was because I was inspired by an exhibition at 360 mall to paint her and not her music or who she was. I don’t claim to have an understanding of Fairuz but I know how I feel when I see her or hear her music. She and her songs […]
My friend, H, gave me this book months ago. It was lovely because she just dropped by my studio with an impulse gift. Well, two gifts. But this is the relevant one: a gorgeous, leather-sorry, cows-notebook with recycled paper (see? offsetting). Caveat: This is not a diary. But after writing and sharing every day for […]
