How’s this for a coincidence. The number 76 is a milestone for me as it was the first time I noticed what year it was (I was six at the time. Is that too old to learn about dates?). I became so conscious of it because I saw it everywhere, this magical number 76. The one that made me finally ask my mom about its significance was my brother’s blue and green socks with 76 on the sides. Anyway, how is this a coincidence? Because I’ve been listening to Gary Numan all morning (and over the past couple of days). And Gary Numan is a milestone in my love for music. He was the first singer I ever fell in love with. Way before David Bowie. I was nine years old. Ok, there have been greater coincidences in history, but…here’s Gary Numan:

Yesterday I posted a video to Instagram which I felt needed to be longer, because I am momentarily in love with Andrew Bird’s song Nervous Tic Motion of the Head to the Left. So I am posting the song here, along with a slideshow of more Duplicate and Triplicate drawings.

Sometimes I swear I’m just lucky. I sat down this morning to plan for my upcoming workshop at the Project Space in Doha. I looked for a color pencil set (there’s always one somewhere in this house) and found this one with wonderful earthy shades. I’ve always wanted a limited palette because I do tend to go nuts with color. The thing that attracted me most about this set was the fact it included a pencil sharpener which I was in dire need of. I opened the set and the sharpener wasn’t there. I guess I may have bought it one day for the sharpener (that’s one thing always lacking in this house). Anyway, I used the colors and they were spectacular. Not because of the actual colors but because they inspired me to do these three drawings this morning. I really felt in my element. Read More

As this drawing came to completion with the woman in red ink, I was reminded immediately of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, hence the title. It has that quality of good and evil, soft and hard. Although one thing I can never remember is which of the two was the monster. Read More
