disclaimer: i've always made fun of men who posed like this for their social networking photos. i call it the 'i own' pose. like if he's standing in front of the grand canyon doing this, i imagine he's thinking: i own the grand canyon. or in front of a mcdonald's: i own mcdonald's. this is not what i'm doing here. this here is me caught in a moment of what seems to be a little 'i'm so excited this is over' dance that i did when i was done with my talk

What a weekend! I am so happy it’s over though. I’m sad to have said goodbye to two of my best friends, sarah and laura, and happy to have met so many new ones, but it’s time to move on with my life, which came to a near standstill in preparation for my talk. Luckily I was done with it the first night, so I was able to relax and enjoy the rest of the weekend.

the trilogy ends with comics researcher nadim damluji. i have a soft spot for nadim because he is the spitting image of my son khaled. but after i hear his talk, i just like him for who he is and what he has to say. bravo, nadim!

There were some memorable talks I attended without my phone (I thought I had lost it but ended up finding it in my bottomless Mary Poppins bag), one of which was architect and University of Sharjeh professor Kevin Mitchell’s. And I enjoyed listening to Yasmine Taan speak about one of my favorite Egyptian artists Helmi El-Touni. Great conference and a fantastic three days well spent. I made quality friends and had some pretty good custard-stuffed donuts. What more would anyone want from life?
