the cats, the toddler and the polyhedra

{ the cats }

last wednesday my family’s cats moved in with me for a few weeks. in the past couple of days i have been startled several times (imagine you’re in bed, lying on your side facing out, you open your eyes and there’s a cat’s face peering at you). but i’m more alarmed when they disappear. recently they have become more comfortable (at times a little too comfortable) and feel at home. this, by the way, is nitfa

and this is tuna. i babysat her once before, two summers ago. here she’s taken over yousef’s rocking chair
{ the toddler }

j and m brought little k by this afternoon while they ran some errands. i don’t have baby toys so i improvised

putting this little one to bed is always a challenge but he was down in less than ten minutes. i took advantage of his nap time to work on…
{ the polyhedra }

i can’t explain why but i absolutely needed to create these polyhedra today. i’ve been at it all day and have stopped simply because i ran out of paper

there is something rewarding and therapeutic about creating something with a definitive beginning, middle and end

it started with a bunch of sonobe units i had folded months ago. i had one polyhedron this morning, by noontime i had five

they are so pretty. i’m going to order some more origami paper (i was one sheet short here so used a page from the instruction manual)
