a dollop of red saves the day
i was having a terrible time with this panel until i was inspired by some earlier ‘kisses’ to play with red. and i’m finally happy
the red made a huge difference to an otherwise lackluster beginning
i also discovered-and was very happy with the fact-that the carbon black shows through the red, giving it an uneven feel, which i welcome
i’m liking the characters that occupy these pages. they’re stronger, more confident than me
but sometimes sadder too
with her sisters
and me
the second and third panels. every two ‘pages’ form a spread in my ‘journal’. you can’t believe how excited i am about this. i just wish i’d thought of it earlier!

Your sad lady is beautiful. Isn’t it funny how the paintings you struggle with can turn out to be the ones you are most pleased with? I’m also delighted by the “dialogue” between the figures in your large journals.
