when your notebook falls apart, you get a surprise like this

I love loose-leaf paper. My triplicate book accidentally ripped down the middle and I took advantage of that little hiccup by tearing the rest of it apart. The drawn-on pages anyway.

One of my favorite scenes from one of my favorite childhood movies, Bedknobs and Broomsticks, is when Eglantine Price, the apprentice witch, frantically shuffles through her disheveled heap of spells to find the right one. When I watched this movie as a twelve-year-old, I was very conflicted as to whether I would have preferred the spells the way they were, an utter but very tactilely satisfying mess, or in a file cabinet. I think what happened to my book answers that question once and for all. Definitely the former.
