making book porn

this is what my bookshelves look like now. they're not too different to the way they were earlier this morning, but they are much cleaner

A few days ago a friend of mine introduced me to bookshelfporn.com and I’ve been hooked on it ever since, like obsessively. I’ve had the site open since then, terrified that for some reason I’m going to lose it in this great big cyber jungle maze. And until now, I’ve been fixated with doing a little something of my own with what books I’ve collected over the past four years (post-divorce, new life, new books). My bookshelves may not be bursting with books, but the ones I have are very special to me. They each have their own story, whether it’s the one being told inside, or the one I tell about the book.

I didn’t want to simply reorganize my bookshelves without giving my books their deserved share of fun. So this morning I indulged in a bit of book-play (happily to say, there were just a couple of topples and a few simple injuries to my feet).

this is the way my shelves looked before (if you notice in the first photo, i have added a painting; that empty space has been gnawing at me for eons

our first stop wasn't so far away from home. i like the way they are caressing my painting

i think she prefers adult books

  1. Great link. I still need to sort out my books and was trying to figure out a way to do..:) will pick the safest method though to keep the little monster away.

    • Well, certainly not above the door! Low shelves perhaps, until she’s a few years older. I don’t have that many books, and still found it so hard to organize them. In the end I split them into adult and children, and after I did it according to size. I would love to have enough books, however, to not only line at least one wall but have stacks of them all over. I want them to be accessible without worrying about putting them back in neatly. I want to be buried and bathed and baptized in books. *sigh*

  2. Been re-organizing my collection between my house a few blocks down and my inlaws- some of the books do not want to leave House 13 to move to house 217 on Street 6…. others are enjoying their new abode…. love the link !

    • Since starting my new life, I have been trying to replace books I had loved once, with new ones. I did keep a few precious ones and re-ordered others. My dearest are the children’s books, especially the Eric Carles and Caleb Browns.

  3. Have you drawn nipples on that tailor’s dummy? I can’t believe no one else has commented on it. Too busy with all that bookish nonsense. *hic!*
