class notes as good as any other

    • open house is a night for parents to experience a school day in the life of their child. classes normally spread across two days are carved into ten minute sections over a time period of two hours. it’s very undiluted. it’s a night to meet the teachers and discuss syllabuses. but to me, it’s also a night where i am yet again reminded of the difference between the arab method of teaching and the western. and in an american school, not only is the former method out of place, but destroys whatever feeling of wellness and goodness you may have acquired from a previous class. and if i were king of this school, i would obliterate the arabic and religion departments. because what is forced on my children and us parents is a set of demented, poorly illustrated and written, extremely dogmatic books, designed and taught by men and women who have no idea what real life in the 21st century is.
