I recently found this sketchpad under a pile of books. It had always been there-I see it all the time-but I never thought to look in it. What I found was a barely filled book of drawings, but more outstandingly, ideas; from being the King of my own little island (not a Queen, and don’t ask me why) to the embryonic stage of a plan to  direct an Oscar Wilde play. It’s an older sketchbook, dating from the late 1990s. I know that because my son was a baby in the sketch of him sleeping. The book is large and a bit awkward. I don’t know if I’ll ever use it again for anything, it’s too big. (more…)Filed under: Moving Pictures, My Studio, slideshows | Tags: Kuwait, notebook, painting, proportions, scale, size

Many times when people see my works in real life they comment on the size, whether they expected the painting/drawing to be smaller or larger. So I thought: why not put things in perspective for everyone?
*Please ignore the bad hair (and just about everything else that’s not relevant). Thank you.

the first layer is a laminated picture by yousef abu-ghazaleh. the second layer is an un-stapled feathered crown by amalie modeen. next is the final stage from my slideshow 'balloons', and finally some cutouts from 'ghosts of things'
There’s something to say about random placement, even though I’m not sure if things are placed randomly by any adult. I have my handy, huge bulletin board in front of me which I occasionally find a place to tack items which are miscellaneous or difficult to place in a proper container. So I end up having this ever-changing board with infinite future possibilities. (more…)

This poem by Rola El Hussein was taken from her book titled I Only Move to Have the Dust Wiped From Underneath Me. She writes in Arabic but I tried my best to translate the poem in her spirit. Thank you, Rola, for inspiring this illustration. (more…)

I’m in Beirut. I don’t have internet on my computer so it’s hard to update, upload or do anything new. So this is just a forget-me-not. I’m going to list some of my favorite posts for you to visit: Home, My Fourth Dream, and Them & Me. Of course there are many more that I would like to remind you of, but working with anything other than my own Mac is frustrating and infuriating. So feel free to explore the rooms on this blog. Can’t wait to get back to my routine!
