When your sister is game, life gets a whole lot funner (and funnier). I’ve always had an itch for dabbling with body art, and I have previously graffitied parts of my own body. But can anyone tell me if there’s such a thing as a career in drawing pictures on other people with a marker? Because that’s what I want to do when I grow up.

today i drew a picture

sunday's picture, 2012, copic markers and sharpies on canvas, 35 x 45cm

I don’t know what it is about Sundays but that’s when I usually get the urge to experiment and goof off. But I think my strongest works stem from experimentation and a sense of play. And this was a lot of fun. Especially with Instagram in my life. (more…)

I’ve always been interested in sculpture, but  it is just so difficult! Which doesn’t prevent me from playing. So I made these two lovely heads this  morning. (more…)

old lamp | new lamp

blah

To think I was going to throw this old lamp away. If it weren’t for a dream I had two nights ago, I would have eventually gotten rid of it. And because of that dream and the work of art I created in it, I now have a new lamp. But let me tell you, this thing was the most difficult object I have ever decopatched. It’s spherical, collapsible and spins on a moving axis, a true pain in the neck (literally). I did it though, and the result is, if I should say so myself, a lot nicer than the one I made in my dream. Don’t you love it when that happens? (more…)

I finished my gold leaf sheets today, which left me a pretty little shell of a booklet. I love life’s little discards.

cut & eat

a microscopic look at cereal

I’m feeling a little down today. In my life, food is a pretty accurate barometer for my moods; the worse I feel, the less I eat. So for this morning, I will eventually have my breakfast, but I probably won’t enjoy it. Which will put me at a 7.8 on the emotional Richter scale.

The picture above and the ones after the bridge are just some of many I did this morning between doing my chores and not having breakfast. Enjoy. (more…)

with my new scanner i can do this: when the need arises, i can scan a few of my smaller notebooks side by side

My A3 scanner finally arrived two days ago. I didn’t want to just segue from my smaller scanner (which still holds a special place in my heart) to this one without pomp and circumstance. I wanted to honor my new and humungous scanner with a post dedicated just to it. So here’s to you, Mustek. And lots more days like this. (more…)

door

About a year ago, one of my home’s doors had to be broken in order to get one of my children locked inside, out. And now, a whole year later, I finally have a new door. When the workers came in to replace it with the new one, and proceeded to take the broken one out of the apartment, I was like, “Whoa, Misters!” I paid for the new door, there was no way I was going to let them just take it back to the workshop and chuck it in the shredding bin. Plus, that door has been with me for years now and I kinda get attached to things (more…)

the lion & the chameleon

we have very harsh weather but somehow the storms leave us with a bit of art to contemplate. do you see the lion and the chameleon?

I was about to walk into my boys’ balcony to water the plants and almost stepped on this: nature’s little masterpiece. As a cloud does with miniscule droplets of condensed water, a dust storm presents us with its paintings in sand, there to be admired (and emulated) by us. So do you see the lion and the chameleon?
