I haven’t had much time to visit the galleries this season but this particular show was important to me because not only are LB o J’zazz‘s Lubna Saif Abbas and Bettina Al-Bakhit good friends of mine, but I am so inspired by their hand-made jewelry and am a little girl lost in their bead haven in the middle of Shaab (on the seaside). Oh my God, what a crazy busy day. It’s going to be like this until Monday night, when I can finally hang loose and enjoy the show (yes, I do tend to be quite relaxed at my exhibitions). I haven’t produced anything today (well, not of the creative kind anyway), but I did drive around Kuwait getting things ready for the show, among other distractions such as trampolining with my crazy boys and sister, and climbing a tree. So I’m cheating here. I figure I need to put a post up because I’ve become kind of addicted to it.Â

Every Saturday I have a lady come in to clean my home. I rarely stay home when she’s here because I’m a little fastidious and I just cringe when I hear things being banged around. Plus I have a thing about strangers in my house cleaning my things. Anyway. Last Saturday, my son needed to be at his computer, which meant we had to stay in the house. So I decided that we’d stay in the TV room where his computer is. Which meant that whatever work I wanted to do had to be in that room. Which meant I had to pack a survival kit (we were going to be in there for hours as I asked her not to clean the room). So if anyone ever asks me what I’d take with me to a desert island, just look at the picture for the answer.

h's chair
I’ve always loved chairs, many of you know that. And one of the ideas I had for this show is to create some works inspired by chairs. I’ve done it before, years ago, and wanted to return to it. My only little problem was finding the right chairs for my liking. Thanks to my friend H who I think has just discovered how truly many chairs she owns, I don’t have to go out to the Friday market looking for these wonderful structures. She was generous enough to allow me to borrow the chairs (and actually have one yay!). This one is the first of my trilogy of chair-inspired drawings.

i try to convince myself that stretching these canvases is therapeutic. it's not.
I stretched the last four of my 50 x 50cm canvases for the Paintings About Sitting series this morning. I can’t believe I’m still working when my exhibition is just ten days away. I guess I’ll be working until the 4th of December until I have to work on actual set-up. Bah! Who am I kidding, it’s all very exciting and most of it rather enjoyable. (more…)

this one looks completely different! actually, all the ones i posted originally do, except for one which I haven't included in this post
I am really gobbling these up. I am enjoying the process so much, because I find it both comforting and rewarding. If you remember, in a previous post I felt these were finished. Last night I decided that three of them weren’t. So I developed those three and left the last untouched. It just didn’t feel right to change it.
All works are 50cm x 50cm acrylic, dyed coffee filters/paper napkins on canvas. Some include gold leaf. I’m exhibiting all ten, including two larger paintings in my upcoming exhibition on December 5. (more…)
