Oh no I got my homonyms mixed up again! It’s ‘waist’ not ‘waste’. Been collecting too much garbage after the litterbugs. (more…)
Sometimes visitors drop in during my lessons with Eman. My sister-in-law Jana came through to take some photos of the two-dimensional Yasmine and another painting. It’s always fun to introduce people from my many different worlds to each other. As for Eman’s scarf, well, that’s finally done. The painting isn’t complete yet as she still needs to work on the background, but at least I can rest easy about the cat not shredding the scarf to bits. (more…)

Oh my goodness. I had this on and listening to music on my iTunes. Carribean Blue by Enya (my son downloaded it, not me, I promise) started playing and it fit wonderfully with the slideshow I’m afraid to say. So if you have the song, listen to it while this slideshow plays. But if you don’t, it’s not worth the illegal download! (more…)

Yasmina this morning. I’m really enjoying the skirt and will work some more on her crazy top. It just needs to be tweaked here and there. (more…)

these photos were taken by my brother, mohammed. in this picture is the reflection of the gallery. my son, k, is reading one of the notes. look how neat and organized the bags are. the corkboard is almost bare
In January 2008 I had a very personal exhibition at the Sultan Gallery. It was the culmination of seven months of writing a daily note and preparing a paper bag lunch for my college imaginary friend, Thomas. The bags were a result of a very traumatic and painful period in my life. They helped me cope and channel my energy into something aesthetically pleasing and tactile. The notes were extremely candid because when I started I hadn’t intended on having anyone read them. The bags were not meant to be opened. I only decided a month before the exhibition to have people open the dated bags and tack the contents onto a corkboard.
I’m sorry the pictures are so small! I had to drag them from my old blog because I can’t find the original photos. If I ever find them (I’m hopeless at organizing my files!) I will update this post, promise.
My friend, W, was nice enough to send me this link (well, she was nice enough to take the photos and post them on flickr in the first place). To go there, please click on this W. Thank you, W!

I’m posting this again (and probably not for the last time) in case you missed it or…miss it. I just want more people to see it. I feel it’s a shame that I worked really hard on it and that it should get swept under the most recent posts pile. Sort of like taking a few hours to create a dish for someone who will eat it in five minutes. Well, I’m rife with gastricular analogies this morning.
I would appreciate if anyone can tell me how to re-announce a post rather than having to do something like what I did just now. Is there a way I can keep this video on my homepage? Help! (more…)

In November 2006, Kuwaiti artists Thuraya Al-Baqsami, Amira Behbehani, Suhaila Al-Najdi and I were invited to exhibit our works at the Institut du Monde Arabe in Paris. It was a good opportunity for four Kuwaiti women to showcase a sample of their works and a great opportunity for me to discover Paris with three young, vivacious conspirators!
These are some photos from the pre-exhibition. To me, the preparations which went into this exhibition were the right way to go about things. The lighting was taken care of a specialist lighting team and was spot on (pun). I wish I had more photos of the gallery. I’m sorry that I didn’t take more photos of Suhaila’s work. It was a bit of a whirlwind four days. (more…)

Eman is making progress with the shawl. She really gets into it. She’s painting a very difficult object. Fabric is hard enough let alone patterned fabric. Bravo, Eman! (more…)

I did some things I should have done earlier. Thanks to the advice of several friends, it was suggested that I stop for a while and step back. Another thing I did was change the easel. The one I was working isn’t adjustable (it is, but mine never worked so I would adjust my height to it). I found it much easier to paint Yasmine’s face when hers was at the same level as mine.
